Community Education

  • Civic Engagement Academy
The Civic Engagement Academy (CEA) is a free 8‐week course about City government taught by City
department representatives. The objective of the CEA is to promote neighborhood leadership by
providing city resources to create community self‐sufficiency.

Each week’s hour‐long class is led by a presenter from a different City agency. Presenters typically include: Philly311, CLIP, The District Attorney’s Office, Licenses & Inspections, Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, Streets Department & PMBC, Town Watch Integrated Services, and The Office of Emergency Management. The atmosphere is an academic and professional setting where both participants and presenters are comfortable.

By the end of the course, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of how City departments
work together. During the last session, there is a short graduation ceremony to recognize the
participants of the academy.
